Wingfield Reserve runs parallel to Middleton Road and contains one of the upper tributaries of the Porirua Stream. The site has been the focus of the Churton Park Vegetation Group’s efforts since 2004. Before work started the reserve and stream were not visible as they were hidden beneath a thick canopy of willow trees and choked with blackberry. The reserve has been radically transformed from a weedy, overgrown and inaccessible eyesore to a healthy, accessible bush fringed waterway for people to enjoy.

Over the past decade, plantings have seen this site change from mainly exotic species into a healthy native riparian environment. On this day we will be releasing some plantings, removing wilding species and opening up some tracks. If you'd like to get involved in this exciting project and help protect and restore this hidden gem, then get in touch today!

What to wear/bring: sturdy boots or gumboots, long sleeves and pants, a hat/beanie, a drink bottle and some food.

What we provide: gloves, tools, high-vis vests, an experienced team leader, training. Get in touch to book a free ride from the Z station on Vivian Street.
