The Weiti River plays a significant role as part of a network of streams that flow through the Hibiscus and Bays area of Auckland and out to Long Bay Okura Marine Reserve. Many areas along the Weiti River are affected by storm water run-off, as well as sedimentation and other pollutants which reduce the water's oxygen levels and the ability of the river to sustain life.
The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board are supporting CVNZ to provide opportunities for the local Silverdale Businesses to get involved in improving the river environment. We are running a series of planting and weeding days. The native plants will help minimise sedimentation as well as provide habitat for birds, insects and reptiles.
