The Waikanae River is located on the KÄpiti Coast. The river is one of the distinctive natural features of the area and is highly valued by the local community. However, as well as being a great asset, there are times when the river floods, causing considerable damage and cost to the community. A major flood in the Waikanae River could cause millions of dollars worth of damage to property and community assets.
The aim of these projects is to restore the habitat and ecological values of the Waikanae river and to protect the local communities from flood.
Get out of the city for a day and work alongside knowledgeable community members. On this day we will be working along the south bank of the Waikanae River.
What we provide: tools, gloves, an experienced team leader, and training. Free transport available from the city centre or our office in Melrose.
What to wear/bring: sturdy boots essential, long sleeves and pants, hat/beanie, waterproof jacket, water bottle and lunch.
Get in touch if you'd like to be involved, we'd love your help!
