To celebrate Tropical Tree Day, Conservation Volunteers are teaming up with local Environmental Engineering company Groundwork Services to plant trees along a bare section of creek bank along Attika Creek, situated on the outskirts of James Cook University Campus.
Works were recently done to create a gabion drop structure for creek drainage, and we will be stabilizing the area around this with a variety of native species. Duties include digging holes (both via shovel and petrol auger for those interested), planting and following with some mulching.
Planting out this area will once again connect riparian habitat in this region and help prevent erosion and sediment runoff into the creek and further out into the reef and wetlands downstream.
Refreshments provided.
