The vision: Trelissick Park will be a healthy wilderness of representative indigenous ecosystems: native bush, steep hillside, rocky outcrop, riparian and freshwater. It will be an attractive and desirable area, freely accessible for all to visit and enjoy.
Trelissick Park is a 22 ha strip of native and regenerating native bush which encompasses the Ngaio Gorge. The park takes in stunning views of stream and forest scape so that when you're on the valley floor it feels like you're in the remote hills of the Tararuas. The area has suffered from early farming, logging, work on road, rail and sewer systems, also stream sedimentation / erosion / pollution/ flooding from the large urban catchment area.
Join us as we help the Trelissick Park Restoration Group to remove environmental pest plants, clear rubbish and with their riparian planting programme (winter months only) to provide shelter for our waterways and improve the ecosystem of our precious wildlife.
What to wear/bring: sturdy boots are essential, long sleeves and pants, jacket, hat/beanie, bring a water bottle and lunch.
What we provide: gloves, tools, an experienced team leader and free transport to/from project if required - get in touch to book a seat!
Come join us to restore longfin eel habitat in this beautiful urban paradise!
