Want to help rebuild our cultural heritage in a beautiful forest in the mountains? Come and help as we restore Tidbinbilla Hut!
The reconstruction of Tidbinbilla Hut will focus on the structure, re-cladding of the structure and repair of the chimney. When at all possible materials used in construction will be chosen to reflect the heritage value of the site.
To make the hut fun and practical for bush walkers to use, we will also repair some seating and a firepit at the site.
We’ll be cleaning up of the general area as well. This will include removal of blackberries and invasive weeds and a general tidy up of modern rubbish at the site. In some cases, found materials may be able to be incorporated into the structure of the hut.
What you can expect:
-Being involved in the reconstruction and preservation of our cultural heritage in the mountains around Canberra
-Helping others to access the bush by building infrastructure for bush walkers and day-trippers
-Learning or practicing skills such as carpentry
-Being out in nature with nice people
-Recognition of your efforts
Required: A reasonable level of fitness and some experience outdoors, like rogaining or bush walking, or labouring skills like carpentry or surveying.
