The Eastern Curlew Migratory Shore Bird community day.

This exciting project is to welcome back the amazing Eastern Curlew to the eastern shores of Australia. Each year these incredible birds travel more than 20,000 kilometres (round trip) as part of their yearly migration. This day will include engaging talks by bird experts, a survey of the Eastern Curlew and other shorebirds and a delicious afternoon tea. It's all about raising awareness of these incredible birds!

Conservation Volunteers, in partnership with National Parks and Wildlife, Threatened Species Recovery Fund and Sutherland Shire Council, are helping to restore some of the Eastern Curlews well-earned resting sites. This includes creating resting sites within their favourite habitat; wetlands, intertidal zones, mudflats and mangroves along Towra Point and in Quibray Bay. Volunteers will help create these resting sites through rubbish removal, controlling unauthorised access, clearing invasive species and planting native habitat.

You will be a part of an Australia wide conservation effort that aims to tackle the mounting international pressures these amazing birds face. Conservation Volunteers has 10 project sites stretching all the way from Darwin to Wollongong, so come and get involved in our newest project! We can’t wait to see you out there :)
