Join us, our Conservation Work Skills Crew and members from Friends of Taupo Swamp & Catchment for a last minute day of planting in Plimmerton. We have partnered with the Friends of Taupo Swamp & Catchment and Porirua City Council to restore and protect this unique habitat. Come along, and lend a hand bring a friend, family or neighbour, ALL are welcome.

Taupo Swamp was the first major wetland to be protected in the Wellington region and is a biodiversity gem because of the rich diversity of plants, fish, birds, reptiles and insects that can be found there. This wetland also plays a crucial role in regulating water flows, reducing the risks of local flooding, capturing nutrients and sediments from surrounding farmland to improve water quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Easily seen from State Highway 1, most Wellingtonians would have driven past the Taupo Swamp and may not have even realised it was there! With 90% of wetlands in New Zealand drained and developed, we need your help to protect and restore this vital habitat for our native wildlife and plants!

What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots are essential, long sleeves, and long trousers. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a beanie, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle and snacks!

What we provide: fully trained team leader/s, gloves, tools and training.

Free transport to and from Wellington City Centre & Porirua Train Station is available (contact us to arrange a pick-up).
