Enjoy a great Sunday outdoors! Learn about Torrens Islands coastal habitats and about wildlife rescues and how animals are cared for and rehabilitated.
You are invited to come and discover important native coastal habitats on Torrens Island while you assist the Australian Marine Wildlife Research & Rescue Organisation (AMWRRO) with caring for these habitats. Mangroves, samphire shrubland and sand dunes provide invaluable shelter and food for many native animals, aquatic life and migrating bird species.
Over past decades, Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) teams, AMWRRO, the Torrens Island Power Station staff and members of the Friends of Torrens Island have been working hard to restore and protect the various coastal habitats, with great success.
You can be part of this on-going achievement. The project will give you, your family and friends an opportunity to learn more about Torrens Island and do something practical and hands-on to help by removing invasive weeds from the sensitive coastal habitats.
AMWRRO staff will also give you a guided tour of their Torrens Island facility which is used for the rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife.
AMWRRO is the only organisation in South Australia licensed to rescue, rehabilitate and release all seals, all seabirds and all sea turtles species. They work in conjunction with South Australian government departments to rescue and release dolphins and whales that are found entangled, injured or beached. They have many interesting stories to share with you.
Lunch will be provided.
Departing CVA office in the city centre at 9.00am, or meet at the island at 9.30am.
This project is part of Veolia's support for the Environment.
