Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) are supporting the Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour partnership with a revegetation project in the Steadfast Stream catchment above Cass Bay.

The Cass Bay Steadfast Stream revegetation project aims to restore habitat for native birds, lizards and insects, and provide refuge for native fish species such as the banded kokupu.

Steadfast Stream is one of several streams which drain the hills above Cass Bay. It once flowed through a forested gully and hosted an abundance of bird, lizard and insect life, along with native fish and plants. An ephemeral stream, re-establishing forest cover along its margins is key to encouraging native wildlife back to this area. The project will also contribute to protecting the health of the harbour waterways through pest, sediment and erosion control.

Come along to our Wednesday Weeding evening event, 5:30pm-7:30pm. We'll be releasing and mulching last year's plantings. Your hard work will be rewarded with a tasty BBQ, and we'd love you to join us.

We provide: tools, gloves, and a friendly team leader. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots, suitable clothing, and bring a water bottle.

We'd love to see you there, so please register below. Contact Hamish (hfairbairn@cvnz.org.nz or 021 399 040) for more information.
