Join Conservation Volunteers this week when we visit Awhitu Regional Park on the Awhitu Peninsula.
Awhitu Regional Park holds regenerating wetlands with fernbirds and banded rail, and the culturally significant Brook Homestead. The park has two long sandy beaches separated by a headland of soft sandstone created from the ancient wind blown sand dunes of the Awhitu Peninsula. At low tide offshore mud flats provide habitat for wading bird species. Much of the park is farmed grassland but inland from the coast there is a fringe of pohutukawa and several fine examples of historic trees.
Join Conservation Volunteers to help complete vital conservation activities in the park. Actities this week may include planting natives, clearing weeds, fencing and other activities.
Bookings are essential. Phone 0800 56 76 86 or email info@conservationvolunteers.co.nz
