Seaweek – Kaupapa Moana is New Zealand’s annual national week celebrating the sea and is taking place this year between 4-12 March 2023. Come and join CVNZ and Sustainable Coastlines on Saturday 11th March for a rubbish pick up along the Estuary edge in South New Brighton Domain.

Meet at the South New Brighton Community Centre at the end of Beatty Street. The pick-up will be between 1pm and 3:30pm with some refreshments to celebrate our efforts at the end.

The clean-up will involve cleaning rubbish from the estuary edge, including a Litter Intelligence survey. The rubbish from the Litter Intelligence area will then be audited at an event in Sumner the following day, March 12. The litter data collected can then be used to action change and create solutions to reduce pollution on the coastlines of Aotearoa. For more information head to the Sustainable Coastlines event page at www.sustainablecoastlines.org/events/

If you'd like to find out about all the other exciting events happening for Seaweek, check out the Seaweek website: www.seaweek.org.nz/events/canterbury/

Bring: Your own gardening gloves, gumboots/ waterproof/ closed-toed shoes, a water bottle and sunhat. As part of our health and safety requirements, CVNZ requires volunteers to wear long sleeves and trousers as protection from the sun and vegetation. Buckets and rubbish bags will be supplied, and we'll have some extra gloves on hand too.
