Seaside Park is a small grassed peninsula that sticks out into the upper head-waters of the Tamaki Estuary. The park is home to playing fields and is used for walking and recreation. Given its location on the Tamaki, any rubbish and waste left at this site has the possibility of entering the estuary and then eventually the Hauraki Gulf.
What is found here is also an indication of what industry is releasing into the river. Most notable plastic nurdles are scattered along the coast. Removing the rubbish from the edges of the park before it enters the ocean is an impotant "up-stream" tool to stop plastic entering our waterways and envitably our wildlife. So very important work indeed!
