On Sunday the 1stof October, Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) invites you to come join us to celebrate the Great Barrier Reef! Bring the whole family along for a morning of fun activities. Discover which birds call our shoreline home. Clean up the marine debris littering our coast. Join in on an interpretive tour of Sandfly Creek to learn about mangroves. Or just come along for a BBQ and chat with local groups.
From 9am until 12pm CVA will be at Illuka Park hosting a range of activities with groups such as BirdLife, Reef Catchments, and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. This is a great opportunity to learn about the local environment and how you can lend a helping hand by participating in citizen science.
October is the anniversary month of when the Great Barrier Reef was declared a World Heritage Site. We are kicking off the celebrations here in Mackay throughout the month will have a range of activities, including planting days and more marine debris clean-ups.
