Reef Blitz is an awareness raising activity featuring practical, hands-on conservation efforts by ordinary people engaged in citizen science.

This year, Conservation Volunteers is undertaking beach clean-ups on Fitzroy Island, on behalf of Tangaroa Blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative.
Volunteers will be divided between Welcome Beach and Nudey Beach to collect and survey data of all debris found, sparking people’s interests  about pervading influences of plastics and rubbish in the marine environment and highlight the need for sustainability to support the reef.

All information recorded from this activity will be entered into the Australian Marine Debris Database and used to help develop source reduction plans.

Following the beach clean-ups, volunteers will have various opportunities around the island to undertake a discounted tour on the glass bottom boat and a tour of the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Facility on the Island.

Discounted prices will be available for volunteers wishing to come over – please stay tuned for pricing closer to the date.

Please bring your own lunch/snacks, or food can be purchased from the Fiztroy Island Resort.
