Join us at Atiu Creek Regional Park for Plant a Tree Day 2021 in partnership with One Tree Planted.
Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) welcomes everyone who shares our love of the outdoors and our commitment to conserving the environment to join us for a community planting day.
Atiu Creek Regional Park is a spectacular 450 hectare park overlooking the northern Kaipara Harbour. Surrounded by beautiful native forest, wetlands, bush, streams and heritage sites supporting a range of flora and fauna and provides habitat for the nationally threatened New Zealand dabchick and brown teal.
The Park is steeped in history and is host to 17 historic locations; including the extensive ridge pa (Maori fort) which was considered a strategic and vantage location for local tangata whenua (the Maori tribe) when engaging in warfare with invading enemies. There is also an abandoned 19th century oyster farm and numerous other early-settler European locations to explore.
Conservation Volunteers has made a commitment to plant 35,000 trees here this winter to help restore this park back to native bush and achieve our aims of turning this area into a predator free peninsula.
We would love for you to come out and escape from the city for the day to help restore this beautiful site by planting hundreds of native trees and shrubs along the gully to filter contaminants before they reach the waterway and provide important shade and habitat for native fauna.
The day will involve planting native trees and shrubs. Transport can be provided from our office in Eden Terrace. It promises to be a fun day and a great opportunity to see this stunning park and give back to your local environment!
To book your spot in our transport, please phone 0800 56 76 86 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
