Pigeon Bush Reserve is a large chunk of land on the Northern side of the Rimutaka's near Featherston which is owned by the Native Forest Restoration Trust. The land was farmed from the 1860's until the 1960's and was eventually almost completely cleared of native forest. After farming ceased the Native Forest Restoration Trust were able to secure a large area of land which they placed under protection via a QEII Covenant. Thanks to their foresight the area is now covered in dense native bush and is home to a good population of native birds and fish. While they have one part time project manager working on the Pigeon Bush Project, they could really use our help to cut a new network of walking tracks through the reserve so that access can be improved for pest control in the future. If you'd like to jump in our bus for a ride over the Rimutaka's and spend the day immersed in native bush and birdsong then get in touch today! it'll be great to have your help.
Please note that because we'll need to travel to and from Featherston in our project minibus for this project it's going to be a long day so please only sign up if you don't have any other commitments in the afternoon.
