The Pauatahanui Wildlife Reserve is an area of approximately 50ha that contains some of the most significant salt marsh in the lower North Island. Join us as we work alongside volunteers from Forest & Bird to protect and enhance the biodiversity  in this reserve. Many resident and migratory bird species may be seen here including the pied stilt, NZ shovler, paradise shelduck, spoonbill and even the rare fern bird.

Activities may include planting, working in the native plant nursery, weeding and track maintenance.

What to bring/wear: sturdy boots, long sleeves and pants, waterproof jacket essential. Layering and wearing a hat or beanie is a good way to stay warm. Bring a water bottle and some food.

What we provide: all tools and gloves provided as well as training and an experienced team leader. Free transport available from Z station on Vivian Street or get in touch if you need a ride from Porirua.

If you're making your own way there, please meet our team at 9am at Pauatahnui Inlet, entrance off Paekakariki Hill Rd, between the Lighthouse Cinema and the challenge petrol station.
