The team at Conservation Volunteers NZ are very excited to continue our work in the Owhiro Stream catchment with a new restoration project. We have received a grant from MPI’s Matariki Tu Rakau fund to plant 20,000 natives in the area over the next three winters. Our amazing and hardworking volunteers have managed to plant nearly 7,000 plants in such a short amount of time!

Our focus for the rest of the year will be caring and maintaining the planting sites to ensure the native trees are growing and healthy. Planting will start back up in Winter next year, so we will need your help in caring for the rakau until they reach treenage size.

Frobisher Reserve is a valley located between Frobisher Street and Happy Valley Road. It has been identified as a ‘significant area of natural landscape’ but is currently dominated by introduced weeds. By replacing these weeds with native plants, we will provide more habitat for native animals, while improving the water quality of Owhiro Stream, and quality of life for local residents.

What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots are essential, please bring eye protection/glasses, long sleeves, and long trousers. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a beanie, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle and snacks!

What we provide: fully trained team leader/s, gloves, tools and training.

Free transport to and from Wellington City is available (contact us to arrange a pick-up).
