Carlton Gore Group started as mother and son deciding to tackle the old man’s beard in their neighbourhood. After they got on top of that they started tackling a small gully below The Crescent to see if they could make any impression on the ground cover weeds (mainly tradescantia and periwinkle) and maybe restore some native plants.
The Group was formalised about 18 months ago, after meeting with other local restoration groups and the local WCC Ranger. So far they have had one planting season, helped by a dozen neighbours and friends, mainly along the edge of the gully. This spring they have been trying to keep back the gorse and release the plantings, its been a great season for growth, unfortunately the weeds have loved it too.
