Oakley Creek is an important wildlife corridor which reaches all the way from the Manukau harbour to the Waitemata. Even though it’s located in the middle of Auckland, it’s a lovely stroll through native bush along paths and wooden bridges. You’re walking through history; the Maori used the creek to reach inland from the inlet and there are many landing sites and signs of settlement along the banks. It is also the site of Auckland City's only natural waterfall!

Litter, particularly plastic, has a major impact on wildlife with birds and fish becoming entangled or mistaking the litter for food, eating the plastic and feeding it to their young. As the plastic breaks into small fragments in the water it leaches potentially toxic chemicals into our rivers and seas, threatening our ocean wildlife and us. By coming out to one of our clean up days you will be making a difference to the amount of rubbish that enters this toxic cycle and creating awareness about steps that we can take to prevent further degradation by recycling and encouraging others to do so too.
