Peter McKenzie set up a trust to purchase and manage Nga Manu reserve in the 1970's with the intention of restoring the native biodiversity and creating a safe-haven for rare species which would be easily accessible to members of the local community.  Today the reserve is home to an impressive stand of native forest as well as many of New Zealand's rare and endangered species, all of which add to an amazing experience for all who visit the area.

On this day we will be assisting Nga Manu staff with various jobs around the reserve such as blackberry removal. You will also have the chance to see and learn about the native long fin eel at the afternoon information session.

What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots are essential, long sleeves, and long trousers. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a jacket, beanie, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle and snacks!

What we provide: a fully trained team leader, gloves, tools and training. Free transport to and from the city centre is available (contact us to arrange a pick-up).
