One of Australia’s best kept secrets, Montague Island Nature Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary situated nine kilometres offshore from the township of Narooma, on the south coast of New South Wales.
This award winning eco tour provides an exclusive opportunity to experience this special place and wildlife, staying in the beautifully appointed heritage-listed guesthouse.
ITINERAY AND HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1
Boat departs for Montague Island. On the 30 minute boat crossing you may see dolphins, seabirds, whales (seasonal) and other marine life before arriving at the resident seal colony. On arrival at Montague Island you will be welcomed by our NPWS guide before enjoy a hearty lunch and exploring the Island on a guided tour. In the evening view the little penguins coming ashore.
Day 2
Today is your day to enjoy and explore Montague Island – take a guided walk or simply relax and take in the endless views. You will also have the opportunity to assist with little penguin surveys.
Day 3
After breakfast enjoy a last exploration of the Island before our boat departure to Narooma.

Returns: Narooma Town Wharf between 10:00am and 1:30pm

Program Inclusions
Two nights accommodation on Montague Island, return boat transfers from Narooma, all meals on the Island, National Parks guide, evening penguin viewing, penguin monitoring, wildlife viewing, Island & lighthouse tour and activities.
Conservation Activities
This eco tour supports wildlife conservation and research on Montague Island Nature Reserve. You will have the opportunity to participate in penguin monitoring and contribute to the long term protection of the Australia’s third largest Little Penguin Colony.
Seasonal Research Highlights
Seabird breeding season: September – December
Whale migration: June – July and September – October
Seabird and land birds: annually with peak season September – March
Penguins: small numbers are present all year with peak season September – February
Penguin moulting season: February - March
Seals: small numbers are present all year with peak season September – March
Fitness Level
Moderate, selected walks are between 40 minutes – 1.5 hours. Participants must be able to climb a short ladder at the Island jetty and walk up and down the Island’s steep and rocky terrain.
Accommodation
The heritage-listed lighthouse keeper's cottage provides accommodation for up to 12 people. These beautifully appointed facilities have been restored in Edwardian style and provide sweeping ocean views, five bedrooms, two shared bathrooms (shower and toilet facilities), lounge, reading and TV room, dining and kitchen area. The accommodation was once the original head lighthouse keeper's quarters. Bed linen, bath towels and soap are provided.
