Montgomery avenue borders Wellington's skyline walking track which runs along the western spine of greater Wellington city all the way to Johnsonville. This track rises and falls between old pasture land, regenerating forest, and old growth temperate rainforest. Wellington City Council is aiming for cover most of this track in native forest in the coming decades and run the track all the way to Tawa!
The hills of Karori once boasted a huge diversity of plants and animals which were sadly mostly cleared during European settlement. With the incredible restoration work of Zealandia just down the road, this suburb is now brimming with new birdlife, prompting residents to bring back the native forests that support them.
Come help out these local legends by lending a hand to rescue young trees, clear invasive weeds and increase the resilience of our communities.
What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots are essential, long sleeves, and long trousers. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a beanie/hat, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle and snacks!
What we provide: fully trained team leader/s, gloves, tools and training.
Free transport to and from Wellington City centre is available (contact us to arrange a pick-up).
