The activities of this project aim to improve the foreshore health and enhance the environment for birds and marine species that rely on these areas. Volunteers will carry several activities as part of this project; utilising the Saltmarsh matters app, they will undertake citizen science surveys of the saltmarsh and birds species. They will clear dense pockets of Weeds of National Significance and other environmental weeds from the foreshore of the Derwent Estuary, within sites that share a boundary with the River Derwent Marine Conservation Area. Volunteers will also collect plastics and other urban waste from the same sites, and collect data regarding types of waste being found will be recorded and added to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative database, which allows researchers and scientists to track and manage sources of debris.
If this project is fully booked but you can make your way to and from the project site, we would love to have you attend.
