While Microplastics may be tiny, they are a HUGE threat to our marine ecosystems. Millions of marine animals are estimated to die every year from plastic entanglement and congestion. This includes microplastics which build up in the digestive system over time, which causes issues such as starvation, blood poisoning and bioaccumulation in larger predators over time, including humans!
Each project day we will aim to collect micro and macro plastics from three riverine or coastal sites around the Perth metro area using the AusMap standardised survey method. We will be driving between multiple sites on each day, so we would prefer all volunteers to travel together with out team leader on the CVA van which departs from Pioneer Reserve in Freo at 8am.
