The Top End is home to pristine coastlines and bushlands amongst urban areas. These precious ecosystems provide important habitats and wildlife corridors for a variety of fauna species in Darwin. Unfortunately, due to urbanisation alongside these areas, certain invasive weed species have flourished. These species pose a threat to the existing remnant and native vegetation.
The aim of this project is to eradicate these species such as Gamba grass, Mission grass, Snakeweed and Itch Grass. We will also be watering existing plants, and planting native seedlings amongst other conservation duties. This will help to protect and improve habitat for wildlife and encourage rehabilitation of existing species.
Volunteers that want to join this project can meet at the office at 8:20am or on site at approx. 9:00am. Contact the office to find out the weekly location and meeting times.
Restoration sites will include McMinns Lagoon, Knuckeys Lagoon, Charles Darwin National Park, East Point and Tree Point.
