Koala populations are under extreme pressure. Between 1996 and 2014, populations declined by a staggering 80.25% on the koala coast putting koalas at serious risk of extinction in Queensland if efforts are not made to protect existing habitats and restore degraded ones.
Come and join the team at Rivermount College as we help to protect important habitat for wildlife! Adjacent to the beautiful Albert River - home to platypus, koalas and other endemic wildlife, this location is an ideal place to learn about conservation and habitat restoration.
This project will perform a targeted and focused eradication of weeds in Yatala to allow koalas and other wildlife to move across the site followed by the planting of koala food and habitat trees to restore critical habitat and connect it to previously restored areas at Rivermount College as well as existing koala bush land.
If this project is fully booked but you are able to make your way to and from the project site we would love to have you on board, simply contact our Brisbane office via phone or email and we can manually add you on to the project. For volunteers wanting transport, the meeting time is 7:50am at 333 Bennetts Road, Norman Park. For volunteers making their own way to the project the meeting time is 9am at the end of Paterson Road, Yatala near the Albert River.
