Wairarapa Stream is one of many urban streams throughout Christchurch that has suffered degradation as a result of urbanisation. CVNZ Christchurch is working alongside the City Council, local schools, businesses and residents to improve the mauri (health) of this waterway. When it is healthy, Wairarapa Stream will be home to tuna (longfin eel), invertebrates and a host of other critters. Since 2019 we've planted over 2000 plants along the banks of the Stream that with your help we'll continue to look after.

The mahi for the day is to release plantings and remove pest plants and rubbish from the area.

Time: 9:30am-12:30pm

Location: Meet on the Greer's Rd side of the park, either near the skate bowl or closer to the bridge.

Bring: Your own gardening gloves, wear sturdy boots or shoes (gumboots are a good idea as we'll be crossing the stream), a water bottle and sunhat. As part of our health and safety protocol, CVNZ requires volunteers to wear long sleeves and trousers as protection from the sun and vegetation.

We’ll supply tools, but you are welcome to bring your own - hedge shears or flax knives are most useful.

We'd love to see you there, so please register below - registrations are essential for this project. For any queries contact christchurch@cvnz.org.nz
