Wairarapa Stream is one of many urban streams throughout Christchurch that has suffered degradation as a result of urbanisation. CVNZ Christchurch is working alongside the City Council, local schools, businesses and residents to improve the mauri (health) of this waterway. When it is healthy, Wairarapa Stream will be home to tuna (longfin eel), invertebrates and a host of other critters. This winter season we’ve planted over 2000 plants along the banks of the Stream.
Today we’ll be laying coffee sacks and mulch to help with moisture retention for the summer season to ensure the plants we’ve worked hard to get in the ground will thrive!
Come for part or all of the day and join our international volunteers! Tools, gloves and morning tea supplied. Bring drinking water, lunch and snacks, and wear sturdy footwear.
Note: we can provide transport, but spaces are limited, so get in touch to book your seat!
