Congwong Beach is located within Botany Bay National Park and is a place of significance for traditional land owners the Gweagal and Kameygal with important cultural sites in the area. Conservation Volunteers Australia and National Parks and Wildlife Services have been working together on the Congwong Beach sand dunes since 2016. This focus of this project is removal of Bitou bush from the dunes, enabling the native seed bank to flourish, re-establishing the areas native vegetation. Sand dunes are vital in protecting the coast line. Not only do they provide a suitable habitat to many species, they act as a buffer against significant weather events.
