This week volunteers will be supporting Lumholtz Tree Kanagaroo (TK) Projects -Cairns Conservation Volunteers Wild Future Species. TK's are rather bizaare animals found in Australia and Papua New Guinnea only, and are relatively rare.  Lumholtz TK are found only in Australia - with a significant population found on the Atherton Tablelands.  These animals are threatened by a number of human impacts - the most noticeable being increasing fragmentation of their habitat and challenges such as cars and dogs.

Part of this weeks project will involve providing support to the Tree Roo Rescue Centre that rescues and rehabilitates orphaned, injured or displaced TKs back into the wild.  This willinclude activities such as collecting browsing material, and construction of some new holding cages (depending on progress of concrete slab).

Other activities include the restoration of known TK habitat and expansion of wildlife corridors that support TK and other animals to disperse, find food and mates.  This may involve detailing of exisiting plantings or site preparation ready for next seasons plantings in prioirity corridor sites, especailly at East Evelyn and Rocks road.
