Green Valley Gardens is an initiative ran by Latrobe Valley Flexible Learning Option (LV FLO) in partnership with Conservation Volunteers Australia, Latrobe City Council and VicHealth to use vacant blocks of land within the Latrobe Valley for 'urban agriculture'. The project aims to bring community groups together to form partnerships with the students attending FLO in the construction and development of an urban garden in order to build their resilience and use this as a learning platform to improve their educational outcomes.

Young people in the Latrobe Valley are often disconnected from the community they reside in. This project aims to build positive, constructive relationships between young people and community groups while improving the mental health and wellbeing of the participants. LV FLO is a school for at risk pupils and its aim is to reconnect young people with education, build strong relationships and provide pathways for our pupils. We believe a hands-on learning program such as Green Valley Gardens would be an excellent additional program to help re-engage young people in the Latrobe Valley

Development of strong, constructive community relations between young people and other community stakeholders as well as helping to drive an improvement in the mental health and wellbeing of those people involved in the project. Brightening of dull and vacant land to improve the appearance of the local area. The people to benefit will be those individuals participating in the program as well as those who live in the immediate community area.

We are looking to engage with the local community to come along and support this exciting and meaningful project. The project will involve working alongside the students, teachers and Conservation Voluteers Australia to participate in a variety of activities including, construction of Garden beds, Chicken coops, green house, a social area, planting, watering, weeding, pest control, harvesting produce, sharing knowledge as well as learning employability skills and horticultural skills. Working with Childrens Check required which is free for Volunteers
