The inlet is threatened by increased human impacts causing increased sedimentation, conatmination, eutrophication, as well as climate change. Rubbish from higher in the catchment gets washed down into the estuary which disrupts the growing seagrass patches serving as nursery grounds for snapper. Rubbish buried in sand outcompete pipi and cockles. Join the community in a litter clean up on Sunday 3rd November from 10am to midday to reduce negative human impacts on the inlet. This event is organized by the Guardians of the Pauatahanui Inlet and Keep Proirua Beautiful Trust. All ages welcome!
Bring a lunch and reusable water bottle. Wear a hat, long sleeves and pants, and footwear you don't mind getting wet.
Free transport available from town at the Z Station on Vivian Street at 9:15am or the Porirua train station at 9:30am. Alternatively meet at Browns Bay Reserve at 10am.
