Forest at the Heart of Wellington involves volunteers from schools, communities and corporations in the planting of 65,000 native trees in the central Wellington Town Belt. The aim of this project is to create a green belt of native trees which will provide a safe habitat for wildlife spilling over from Zealandia. Plantings will accelerate the restoration of native bush to the town belt of Mt Victoria and Newtown, where fires had largely removed bush before European settlers arrived in 1840 and pines now dominate.
Please note this is a special planting event with visiting dignataries and media on site from 10am - 1pm.
We provide: an experienced team leader, tools, gloves, health and safety management and training. Refreshments will be provided.Free transport available - get in touch to book a seat as places are limited!
What to wear/bring: sturdy boots, long sleeves and pants, a hat/beanie, waterproof jacket, water bottle and food.
This project is in partnership with Rotary Club of Wellington and Wellington City Council. Supported by MPI Billion Trees Fund.
