The beautiful Fitzroy River flows east by south, through Heywood then between the western edge of the Tyrendarra lava flow and the Mount Clay escarpment, and thence across a coastal plain. The river is joined by two minor tributaries before reaching its estuary or river mouth and emptying into Portland Bay southeast of Tyrendarra. The river descends 138 metres over its 58-kilometres
Many areas on the banks of the Fitzroy river have previously been fenced off and revegetated by the Glenelg Hopkins CMA in partnership with local landholders. Over time some of these planting have been colonised by local weed species, so its now timely to conduct some maintenance activities to ensure the desitred indigenous vegetation continues to thrive.
This project will be done as day trips from Warrnambool so you are welcome to join for a day.
