Conservation Volunteers, in partnership with Georges Riverkeeper and Fairfield City Council will be working together to revegetate the northern shoreline of Chipping Norton Lakes - a vital wetland located within urban Sydney!

Fancy yourself a bit of a green thumb? Well come along and help us plant an important saltmarsh species called Sporobolus virginicus. If you’ve never heard of S.virginicus before, it has a bunch of common names including Sand Couch, Salt Couch and Saltwater Couch… but whatever you call it, it’s an incredibly important plant species found in intertidal areas.

Sand couch has been identified as key source of habitat and food, supporting a wide range of different species, like algae, snails and crabs. In turn, this can have a positive flow on effect for populations of fish species. Think of sand couch as a gracious host, putting on an all-you-can-eat buffet for all the crabs, prawns and fish living in the Georges River!

So come along and help us plant this incredibly important species, to help build the foundations of a stronger food web and restore this incredible river system for all to enjoy! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn all about urban wetlands, while spending the day with like-minded people, working together to help restore the amazing Georges River!

The project will finish on-site at 2:30pm, with a drop-off back to Cabramatta Train Station at 3:00pm.
