Conservation Impact
Flatback turtles are listed as 'Vulnerable' in Western Australia and under the AUstralian Government's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and data deficient by the INternational union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Turtles are threatened by habitat loss, oceanic pollution, climate change and the wildlife trade, among other fgactors. The data gained from the Eco Beach research contributes to data the IUCN need to determine the status and management needs of Flatback turtles, which are the only sea turtles that occur mainly within the Australian continental shelf.
