This project will connect the migrant community to established Tasmanians and visiting volunteers by running short conservation activities such as planting native trees or assisting in a community nursery or garden throughout the year.  Activities will include planting, seed collection or plant propagation, followed by a shared lunch.  Participants will be a mix of adult English language students at Tas TAFE and Tasmanian and visiting volunteers.

Each day will provide a fun, relaxed environment for migrants and locals who would otherwise not have had the chance to meet to undertake an activity that benefits their shared community.   It will allow migrants with limited English to participate in an activity with native English speakers and achieve a common goal. It will not only assist the migrant community to feel welcome and included, but it will give them the chance to connect with established Tasmanians in a supportive environment.

Some of our volunteers and staff have already mentioned that they have seen some of the migrants who attended a pilot planting event in the street and have been able to wave and say hello, so already our project is improving social connections and making people feel welcome and included.
