We have been working in conjunction with Christchurch City Council to plant a forest of 40,000 kahikatea trees in a wetland area that will provide stormwater retention services as well as enhancing urban biodiversity. In 2021, we succeeded in planting 30,000 and now we need your help in releasing them from the grass growth.

Matariki Tu Rakau is part of the One Billion Trees programme, helping people to plant living memorials that honour members of their communities. Matariki Tu Rakau was launched on 25 April 2018 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Meeting point: 103 Philpotts Rd, Mairehau. For more accurate directions, put #63 into your GPS.

Bring: Your own gardening gloves, sturdy boots or shoes, a water bottle and sunhat. As part of our health and safety requirements, CVNZ requires volunteers to wear long sleeves and trousers as protection from the sun and vegetation.

We’ll supply tools, but you are welcome to bring your own; hedge shears or flax knives are most useful.

We'd love to see you there, so please register below. Contact Donna (dlusby@cvnz.org.nz) 021 457 568 for more information.

COVID-19: We will be following the advice from government and local council on all Covid-19 restrictions.
