Connecting People to Parks

Every Tuesday Conservation Volunteers are out and about at different parks around Auckland.

It’s part of an initiative between Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and the Auckland Council to help bring biodiversity back to our central parks and to give people who are interested in conservation an opportunity to get involved.

This week we are at Oakley Creek, an important wildlife corridor which reaches all the way from the Manukau harbour to the Waitemata. Even though it’s located in the middle of Auckland, it’s a lovely stroll through native bush along paths and wooden bridges. You’re walking through history; the Maori used the creek to reach inland from the inlet and there are many landing sites and signs of settlement along the banks. It is also the site of Auckland City's only natural waterfall!

Conservation Volunteers experienced team leaders guide the programme and aim to teach volunteers about all aspects of conservation, including plant identification and planting techniques.

Join us and help out your local parks.
