Do you enjoy long walks on the beach and conservation? We do too!

Come along and join us at Congwong Beach, as we continue to restore the bushland of La Perouse! Congwong Beach, part of Kamay Botany Bay National Park, contains over 350 different species! With amazing views of both the ocean and coastal vegetation, Congwong Beach is representative of the vegetation that was once widespread throughout eastern Sydney. Unfortunately due to urbanisation and habitat loss, we have lost much of these magical coastal areas.

However Conservation Volunteers, in partnership with National Parks and Wildlife Service, are here to protect the coastal oasis found at Congwong Beach! We will be tackling two species that are a major threat to coastal ecosystems – Bitou Bush and Lantana. By removing these two exotic plant species, we are hoping to provide native plants with the room to grow and thrive.

We will also be taking part in a couple of planting days to revegetate the area as part of this project!

During whale watching season (June-July), this site is also a great place to spot whales! So grab your hat and sunscreen and join us for a fun day at the beach!

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Make sure you book your spot online. Spaces are limited and they do fill up!
  • We offer a free pick up and drop off at Central Station for each project
  • Please wear sturdy boots, long pants, long sleeve shirt & hat. Bring lunch, snacks and a water bottle.
  • Don't worry, no previous experience is required. We will provide you with all the know-how on site.
  • We can provide you with a certificate of appreciation for coming along and helping out.
  • The project will finish at approx. 2.30pm on-site.
