The hillsides of Churton Park are the only part of the skyline ridge of Wellington that is still uncovered by native forest. Aiming to be on the cutting edge of urban conservation, Wellington City Council have taken on the challenge to expand the outer green belt by planting thousands of native trees just below the ridge.

For the first 5 years in the life of a young native tree, it is vulnerable to all sorts of nasty plant invaders. Our job as kaitiaki is to protect this young forest and ensure it will one day thrive. By helping us out you will feel more connected to local natural spaces, give homes to our threatened native wildlife, and help provide shelter for generations to come.

Our aim for this project is to connect rangatahi, local residents, visitors and businesses to nature by extending our native forests.

Locations for this project are by Erlestoke crescent in Churton park. We will confirm the exact points for each day before the event.

What to wear/bring: Sturdy boots are essential, please bring eye protection/glasses, long sleeves, and long trousers. Ensure you pack warm clothes such as a jacket, beanie, jumper and a rain jacket to protect you against wind and rain. Bring a full water bottle and snacks!
