Lamington National Park is a unique World Heritage area that contains significant stands of intact rainforest and magnificent Gum Tree dominated flats. The invasion of weeds in bordering properties threaten the areas biodiversity through increasing tourism trade, change in land use practices from farming to life style or hobby farming and a shrinking government budget that has reduced the management practices in the area to a bare minimum.

Join CVA as we partner with members of Lamington Landcare Group to remove weeds growing along the upper reaches of Christmas Creek and its tributaries and plant native species to re-generate this region. By carrying out this work we envisage an increase in the abundance and spread of native plants which will create more suitable habitat for animal species. The work will mean a stabilization of the creek banks leading to decrease erosion and subsequent reduction of sediment loading of local streams and rivers which ultimately end up in the RAMSAR listed Moreton Bay.

This project is a great way to network and gain hands on skills for a career in conservation while making a real difference to our environment. A student discount is available for full time students which brings the complete cost to $120 (this covers all food, accommodation and transport). Volunteers who can make their way to and from the project each day can join in for free as a walk-in-volunteer for either single or multiple days. If you would like to use a student discount or join in as a walk-in-volunteer please contact our office at mrichardson@cva.org.au or call us on 3399 5761.
