Formerly a remnant salt marsh that had been infilled for grazing, this 20 hectare piece of farmland was returned to wetland habitat in 2002. Through the hard work of a team of Estuary Trust volunteers and City Council Park Rangers, the Charlesworth Wetland is now a successful feeding, roosting and breeding ground for many of the Estuary bird species, A series of 'wader scrapes' with pools, channels and islands attract wading birds and has turned this wetland into a bird haven, with walking tracks allowing public access around the western perimeter.
Today we'll be doing a variety of tasks related to plant maintenance around the reserve.
Time: 9:30am-12:30pm
Bring: Your own gardening gloves, sturdy boots or shoes, a water bottle and sunhat. Please wear long sleeves and trousers as protection from the sun and vegetation.
We’ll supply tools, but you are welcome to bring your own - hedge shears or flax knives are most useful.
We'd love to see you there, so please register below. Contact Donna (dlusby@cvnz.org.nz) 021 457 568 for more information.
