TOUR LOCATION
Our base is Sangsurya, Byron Bay NSW.

CONSERVATION IMPACT
Sangsurya is a beautiful 2.5 hectare subtropical forest and home to many local fauna species including wallabies, koalas, water dragons, reptiles and possums. This property was once cleared and used as a banana plantation and for grazing cattle. Over two decades this private sanctuary has slowly been reforested using ongoing bush regeneration efforts. During our stay you will assist with hands-on bush regeneration activates including resorting walking tracks and habitat through tranquil rainforest.

TRAVEL
Depart from Brisbane or Gold Coast, you will be transported in an air-conditioned forward-facing 2WD vehicle

ITINERARY
Day 1 - Depart Brisbane for our journey to Byron Bay. On route we visit Bangalow, the only intact Federation village on Australia’s east coast. It is said that the name ‘Bangalow’ meant either ‘a low Hill’ or a kind of palm tree in the language of the Banjalang Aboriginal people who lived in the area before European settlement in the 1840.  In the afternoon we arrive and settle into our beautiful accommodation base for the next few nights.

Day 2 - Breakfast is followed by the opportunity to spend the day assisting with bush regeneration and walking track clearing activities on this beautiful private sanctuary. After a rewarding day of hands-on conservation activities enjoy relaxing at our  eco friendly accommodation – watch the local wildlife, take a walk on the property or enjoy a swim in the pool.

Day 3 - Breakfast before our mornings bush regeneration activities. In the afternoon we enjoy a sunset cruise on the magnificent Brunswick River with a wine or beer in hand and delicious cheese platter. There’s no better way to relax and take in the sights and sounds of the incredible birdlife on the river, in the heart of the Byron. We return for our final group dinner.

Day 4 - A leisurely breakfast before we pack up, check out and enjoy an easy to moderate 4km loop walk to one of the most iconic landmarks in the Byron Shire, standing tall on the tip of Cape Byron. En route you’ll wander through the shade of bangalow palms and ancient burrawangs, across kangaroo grasslands, along picturesque beaches and up to Cape Byron Lighthouse. Keep an eye out on the water for turtles, dolphins, stingrays and, in season, whales. After our walk we enjoy lunch before our return journey to Brisbane, stopping on route at The Farm. This 80 acre working farm is home to beautiful local produce and a community of growers, producers, and educators who share a passion for growing food using traditional, sustainable methods that are 100% spray and chemical free.
