Brookby Equestrian Park lies in the Brookby Valley and is home to part of the Papakura Stream and its tributaries. Land development in the past century has seen most of the vegetation removed from around the waterways, leading to erosion, sedimentation and farm runoff into the streams and rivers, causing a serious decline in water quality. Thanks to Auckland Council's Waterways Protection Fund the waterways on this property are being fenced and riparian margins planted, as well as the installation of alternative water sources (troughs). Fencing now complete, this week our volunteer team will be planting 2000 plants within the fenced areas. The plants will, over time improve the water quality by filtering runoff and sediment.
