Boral supports Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) and school communities through the Connected Communities Program which aims to educate and inspire young Australians to take action for the future of their environment.
Oberon Secondary College in Belmont utilise the Waurn Ponds Creek for student learning activities, including conducting Waterwatch on a regular basis to help the local Catchment Management Authority build a health profile of the creek. The creek flows for 20 km from the southern slopes of the Barrabool Hills and through floodplains before joining the Barwon River. It is an important waterway as it drains the floodplains, supports native plants and wildlife, filters water before the Barwon River and provides a popular recreational area for local communities.
The focus of this project will be litter collection and minor weed removal along the Waurn Ponds Creek with students from Oberon Secondary College. Volunteers will then move to Jerringot Wetland which is part of the Barwon River's natural floodplain and a sanctuary for wildlife close to Geelong.
