Whether you’re a novice or expert birdwatcher, or just want to learn more about the birds of Western Sydney, come and join us for a special bird watching session at Londonderry Reserve!
Join Conservation Volunteers and ecological extraordinaire Mark Fuller from Avianation for an opportunity to learn all about the birds of the Cumberland Plain.
The Londonderry Woodland Reserve is a vital remnant of the critically endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland! It is very special because it is one of the only remnant areas that contains mature native vegetation and large trees, which provide habitat for local wildlife. Rickaby’s Creek also runs through the reserve which provides a migration corridor for wildlife, as it links pockets of Cumberland Plain Woodland. Visiting the reserve lets you have the closest experience to what the Cumberland Plain looked like before European settlement.
As for the bird species found at Londonderry Reserve… well we don’t want to spoil the surprise. Come along and see for yourself!
Meet at Penrith Station at 8:00am, or meet us on site at 8:30am at 119-133 Bowman Road, Londonderry. This project will be a half day, finishing on-site at 11:30am, with a drop off to Penrith train station at 12:00pm.
ESSENTIAL ITEMS: Please wear sturdy boots, long pants, a long sleeved shirt and dress warmly! Early mornings can get very chilly in Western Sydney, especially when you’re standing still during a bird survey! It’s a good idea to bring a bottle of water in case you get thirsty and a snack in case you get a bit peckish.
