Join us in the picturesque township of Picton (one hour south-west of Sydney) to help restore important wildlife habitat along Stonequarry Creek, an important tributary of the Nepean River and vital waterway for the local community of both historical and natural value.
Stonequarry Creek runs right through Picton, readily visible from homes and businesses around the township, and has been a focus for a number of environmental initiatives including threatened species management (most notably Grey-headed flying foxes), community education, climate risk impact and adaptation and biodiversity management.
In recent years major storms have negatively impacted Stonequarry Creek, eroding the bank and flooding the central commercial area of Picton, causaing damage to many businesses and homes.
Sponsored by Boral, this project will provide an opportunity for local volunteers to care for this waterway and wider community through a variety of environmental rehabilitation activities. These will include invasive weed removal and native tree planting in order to restore wildlife corridors, mitigate erosion through bank stabilization, the improvement of river water quality and the enhancement of the river's capacity to absorb floodwaters.
